Water Scarcity: Dozens of Villages at Risk in Cyprus
Share on:

Several communities, mainly in semi-mountainous areas of Cyprus, are facing a serious water supply problem. Dozens of villages are at risk of running out of water even before mid-August, leading the Water Development Department (WDD) to seek immediate solutions.

The WDD informed the Union of Communities that it will cover the cost of purchasing and transporting potable water by tankers to the water tanks of the affected communities. The communities are required to submit the relevant invoices and certificates of suitability of the tankers to the District Offices of the WDD.

The President of the Union of Communities of Cyprus, Andreas Kitromilidis, confirmed the difficult situation, stressing that many communities have minimal water in their reservoirs. He also referred to the problem faced by Kapedes, his own village, where water cuts are being implemented to serve all residents.

If the drought continues, the situation may be irreversible in many areas.
