Auditor General Slams Design Flaws in 'Smart' Bus Stops

The Audit Office has published a Special Report (ΤΔΕ/01/2025) regarding design problems in the 'Cyprus Smart Bus Stops/Shelters' (ΚΕΣΣ) project, costing €62 million.
The report identifies three key design flaws:
- Zero visibility: A non-transparent pillar blocks visual contact between passengers and buses.
- Small benches: Do not adequately meet user needs.
- Incorrect impression: The 'Small Shelter' type appears to be installed backwards.
The Audit Office blames the Department of Public Works (ΤΔΕ) for choosing a different layout from the initial recommendations, ignoring visibility. The ΤΔΕ insisted on the 'correctness' of the design despite warnings and reactions.
Implementation is proceeding without completing the pilot application, endangering public safety and service.
