The Audit Office of the Republic of Cyprus has expressed serious concerns about the condition of the road network in the Akamas Peninsula, specifically the route from the Baths of Aphrodite to Fontana Amorosa. An audit conducted between April 15 and 17, 2026, revealed significant deficiencies and hazardous conditions.

According to the Audit Office, the road is riddled with potholes, stones, and cliffs, making passage dangerous. Despite warnings, all types of vehicles, including unsuitable small cars and ATVs (quad bikes), are using the road, in violation of the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment of 2021.

The Office draws attention to the increased use of ATVs by inexperienced drivers, often with underage passengers, which increases the risk of accidents and harms the environment. The Audit Office emphasizes the state's responsibility to protect the environment and the safety of visitors and proposes the immediate implementation of controlled access, visitor information, and the implementation of the terms of the Strategic Environmental Impact Assessment.

The audit findings will be included in a special report after the parliamentary elections.
