Firefighter's Plea for Respect After Limassol Fires

Following intense criticism of the operational management of the major fire in Limassol, firefighter Avgi Tryfonidou responded via a post on social media. She described the dramatic moments she experienced in the field and asked for respect for the firefighters.
Ms. Tryfonidou addressed claims such as the lack of water in fire trucks, emphasizing that refueling takes time and a continuous flow is not possible. She also rejected allegations that instructions were given to let houses burn, explaining that priority was given to saving human lives.
She also mentioned the arrival of firefighters from various regions of Cyprus, such as Larnaca, Paphos, and Famagusta, and thanked them for their contribution. She emphasized the difficult working conditions, exhaustion, and danger faced by the firefighters.
Ms. Tryfonidou concluded by asking for respect for the firefighters and pointing out that fire prevention is everyone's responsibility.
