EOKA Anniversary Commemorated in the USA

The Federation of Cypriot American Organizations, in collaboration with the World Coordination Committee of Cypriot Struggle (PSEKA), commemorated the 71st anniversary of the EOKA 1955-1959 liberation struggle. The event, titled "Land of Heroes," took place in the community of St. Demetrios in Astoria.
The event began with a Trisagion service in memory of the fallen, led by Protopresbyter Anargyros Stavropoulos. The President of the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations, Kyriakos Papastylianou, emphasized the importance of the struggle for the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus.
The Consul General of Cyprus in New York, Kyriakos Poyiatzis, spoke about the sacrifices of the fighters and the impact they had on figures such as Albert Camus. Presbyter Evagoras Constantinides highlighted the importance of educating younger generations about the struggle.
The President of PSEKA, Philip Christopher, stated that the struggle for the liberation and justice of Cyprus continues. The Permanent Representative of Cyprus to the UN, Maria Michael, and other representatives attended the event.
During the event, the choir of the Pancyprian Association of America and students of the Greek School of St. Demetrios presented a musical performance, and the documentary "EOKA 1955-1959 – 71 Years" was screened.
