Significant progress is being made in Cyprus regarding allogeneic transplants, as the bill submitted by DISY to the Parliamentary Health Committee is nearing final approval. This development is expected to end the hardship of patients who are forced to travel abroad for such transplants.

The bill aims to establish a comprehensive legal framework for conducting hematopoietic stem cell transplants in the Republic of Cyprus, with an emphasis on protecting public health and patient safety. It provides for the creation of clear rules for the establishment, operation, and supervision of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Application Units, both in the public and private sectors.

Savia Orphanidou, Vice President of the Parliamentary Health Committee, told REPORTER that the legislation will allow anyone ready to apply for a license to perform allogeneic transplants in Cyprus to do so, calling the development historic.
