Within two months, the adaptation of a space at the Christos and Stelios Ioannou Foundation is expected to be completed to transfer patients from Athalassa Hospital. The transfer is due to the unsuitability of three buildings, as revealed by a structural study in January.

The space will have twelve beds and will meet all safety standards. At the same time, announcements are expected regarding the operation of a closed ward unit in Limassol, which will serve patients from the provinces of Paphos and Limassol.

While these solutions are important, they do not fully address the problems of overcrowding and staff shortages at Athalassa Hospital. During the Easter holidays, the hospital exceeded its capacity limits, and the shortage of mental health nurses remains a serious issue. An announcement of positions is expected from OKYpY, but concerns are being raised about the effectiveness of the measure.

Meanwhile, the second phase of upgrading Athalassa Hospital, a project worth 40 million euros, is in its initial stages, with the issuance of guidelines for the feasibility study pending.
