Test SMS to be sent to mobile phones in Cyprus today

A test SMS will be sent to all mobile phones in Cyprus today at 19:00, as part of preventive measures and to provide clear instructions to citizens.

The test, in collaboration with telecommunications providers, aims to inform citizens in a timely manner. The Minister of Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, called on citizens to remain calm and follow the instructions of the Civil Defense if they receive the message.

The instructions include immediately moving to a basement or, if there is none, staying indoors away from doors and windows. Avoid traveling by vehicles to schools, hospitals and stadiums.

The activation of the system is part of the effort to strengthen civil protection, following criticism of gaps in early warning in the past.
