Erimi Elementary School: Request to Change School System
Share on:

Parents of Erimi Elementary School "Panikos Chatzichambis" are requesting the transformation of the school from a Unified All-Day School (EOD) to an Optional All-Day School (OOD). The request has been submitted to the Ministry of Education.

According to the Parents' Association, approximately 80% of parents voted in favor of the conversion to OOD, believing it would benefit the children and families of the community.

As stated by the president of the Parents' Association, Charalambos Constantinides, the school has been part of the group of 14 EOD schools for 14 years on a pilot basis. Parents reported fatigue in children and incidents of delinquency. A secret ballot was held and a letter was sent to the Minister of Education.

In a note from the Parents' Association, the reasons for the change are emphasized, such as the democratic right of children to complete teaching hours when they are productive and of parents to pick up their children at a time that suits them, as well as the need to stop fatigue and delinquency.

An official source from the Ministry of Education stated that an evaluation of the EOD institution is being conducted and the institution cannot be changed before its completion, but there is an intention to meet with the Parents' Association.
