Paphos Municipality: Employee Dismissed After Corruption Complaint

The second appeal of a Senior Officer of the Paphos Municipality is pending before the Administrative Court. She was dismissed after filing a corruption complaint in April 2022 with the Anti-Corruption Authority and the Cyprus Police.
The employee's legal advisor, Simos Angelidis, stated on the Alpha Enimerosi show that the appeal concerns the Municipality's refusal to provide protection to the whistleblower, as provided for informants.
Mr. Angelidis stressed that instead of promoting the investigations and taking into account the suggestions of the Auditor General, the employee was dismissed again. He also mentioned that the process is pending between the Police and the Legal Service.
The law prohibits retaliation such as dismissals and demotions, however, according to Mr. Angelidis, the employee received no protection.
