Nicosia Municipality: Developments for State Fair and Sopaz Area

The Nicosia Municipality is nearing decisions regarding the utilization of the State Fair area and the Sopaz area. According to the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, a study has been completed that favors the creation of a metropolitan park in the State Fair area and an innovation zone in Sopaz.

Mr. Prountzos emphasized the need for a large green space in Western Nicosia and requested a fund of two million euros for the restoration of the State Fair area. A meeting of a tripartite committee is expected within March by the Presidency of the Republic to examine the findings of the study.

Aristos Damianou, Member of Parliament for AKEL, expressed satisfaction with the promotion of residents' requests, while Dimitris Dimitriou, Member of Parliament for DISY, stressed the need for coordination for the development of the two projects. Giorgos Penintaex, Member of Parliament for DIPA, supported the creation of a green space with consultation with the local community.

Stavros Papadouris, President of the Citizens' Cooperation Ecologists Movement, spoke of a golden opportunity for the state, while Alexandra Attalidou expressed satisfaction with the consensus on the utilization of the space. From the "Initiative for a Human Engomi", Yiannos Oikonomou welcomed the positive steps, expressing concerns about delays.
