Dimitris Gotsopoulos: 'We went through the flames' in Chios

Actor Dimitris Gotsopoulos described his experience of the fire in Chios, stating that he was close to the flames. In a post on Instagram, he explained that he is well, but described the difficult situation that prevailed.

Gotsopoulos stated: 'We spent the afternoon almost through the flames to save the village. People were almost burned, they took refuge in the sea, houses were lost, property, a paradise is gone and Northern Chios. Absolute disorganization. Whatever the volunteers did. Shame'.

According to reports, throughout the night, a battle was fought with the flames to protect residents and visitors. The fire caused damage to homes, businesses, crops and forest areas.

At first light, water drops began from the air with five helicopters, while on the ground 146 firefighters are operating with seven ground teams and 31 vehicles. EKAV rescuers provided assistance to 10 firefighters who were injured, while seven residents were taken to the hospital with respiratory problems.
