SKIP Owners' Protest in Nicosia: Traffic Disruptions

A protest by SKIP owners involving 57 vehicles is causing traffic delays in Nicosia. The route includes the Ministry of Agriculture, the Presidential Palace, and the Department of Environment. Police are advising the public to follow traffic officers' instructions.
The Department of Environment issued a statement regarding the Pan-Cyprian Association of SKIP Owners' protest, stating it is related to the suspension of an illegal C&D waste (Construction and Demolition Waste) management unit. The suspension was imposed based on relevant legislation.
The Department of Environment emphasizes that the Waste Regulations of 2023 (C.D.P. 112/2023) for C&D waste management have been implemented, and measures are being taken for their enforcement. Fines of approximately €100,000 have already been issued for 2025.
Furthermore, the Department of Environment is working to secure the profession of waste collectors/transporters and is considering the placement of new C&D waste management units in rehabilitation areas of former Uncontrolled Waste Disposal Sites.
Inspections of illegal dumpsites are also being intensified, and the expansion of Green Points is being supported. The installation of an information system to monitor waste flows is underway.
