CMP: Search for Missing Persons in 8 Locations, No Findings

The Committee on Missing Persons in Cyprus (CMP) is conducting excavations at eight sites, seven in the occupied territories and one in the free areas, so far without any remains being found.
The excavation teams have focused on various areas, including Assia, where two teams are investigating wells, Galatia in Karpasia, where investigations continue in a lake after previous discoveries of mass graves, and Exo Metochi in occupied Nicosia, where information is being investigated about bones seen in 1974.
In addition, a team is working outside the village of Kioneli, in an area where ELDYK operated, while excavations are underway in Dikomo and Kiumourtziou, with information on Greek Cypriot soldiers and bones, respectively. In Engomi, in the free areas of Nicosia, investigations are being carried out in wells for Turkish Cypriot missing persons from the period 1963-64.
Of the approximately 300 pieces of information being evaluated, 100 are considered valid and are expected to lead to new excavations. Excavations continued with reduced staff during the summer and fully resumed in September.
So far, none of the current excavations have led to the discovery of remains.
