Dry Stone Wall Restoration: Supporting Crops in Limassol Highlands

Environment Commissioner Antonia Theodosiou emphasized that the preservation and restoration of the dry stone landscape in the fire-affected areas of the Limassol highlands supports the soil, crops, and biodiversity.
In her address at the Arsous Cultural Festival, Ms. Theodosiou stated that dry stone walls can contribute to fire prevention, soil stabilization, and reducing the risk of erosion.
The Commissioner's office is working on creating certified dry stone masonry training courses to educate new artisans.
Ms. Theodosiou highlighted the importance of utilizing dry stone walls preventively as part of an integrated landscape management strategy.
She also referred to the documentary 'Stone upon Stone,' which highlights the dry stone heritage.
