Dr. Fotini Sofokleous, Pillar of Pediatric Oncology Clinic, Passes Away

It is with deep sadness that the passing of Dr. Fotini Sofokleous, an emblematic figure in Pediatric Oncology and Pediatric Hematology care in Cyprus, has been announced. Dr. Sofokleous was a pillar of the Pediatric Oncology Clinic and the ELPIDA Foundation for over 30 years.

Dr. Loizos G. Loizou, a close associate of the deceased, announced the news, emphasizing her significant contribution to the development of laboratory hematology and the creation of comprehensive services for children with thalassemia and cancer.

Dr. Sofokleous supported the establishment of the Pediatric Oncology – Pediatric Hematology Clinic at Archbishop Makarios III Hospital in 1990 and served as Deputy President of the ELPIDA Foundation for 30 years.

The ELPIDA Foundation announced the establishment of the "Fotini Sofokleous" Scholarship for children who have overcome cancer and wish to begin their studies.

The funeral will be held tomorrow, Friday, August 9, 2025, at 16:30, at the Church of Agios Nikolaos in Engomi, Nicosia.
