Reports of jellyfish and sea anemones in Cyprus's seas have been circulating on social media in recent weeks. The Department of Fisheries and Marine Research (DFMR) has issued a relevant announcement.

The DFMR informs the public that there are various marine organisms in Cyprus's waters that can be dangerous due to venom in their tissues or organs. These include invertebrates such as jellyfish, anemones, polychaetes, sea urchins, and fish.

Detailed information regarding the identification of these species, as well as ways to prevent and treat injuries or poisoning, is available in the publication "Poisonous Marine Organisms in the Waters of Cyprus".

The DFMR urges the public to be careful and avoid contact with these species in their natural environment.

Anemones usually live near the coasts, attached to rocks, sand, or mud, and sometimes parasitize jellyfish.
