Cyprus Radiological Society: Challenge to OAY Circular

The Cyprus Radiological Society (ΑΕΚ) has denounced an attempt to challenge a circular issued by the Health Insurance Organisation (OAY) on August 29, 2025, which institutionally secures the role of the radiologist. According to ΑΕΚ, the recent media coverage of an isolated incident is an attempt to reintroduce the issue of the non-physical presence of radiologists in radiodiagnostic centers.
ΑΕΚ emphasizes that the physical presence of the Radiologist is essential for safety, quality, and medical responsibility, ensuring correct radiological diagnosis. The Society states that the discussion on a television program "deviated into references that degrade and offend the scientific role of the radiologist."
ΑΕΚ accuses that elements were presented that distort reality, degrading the value of the physical presence of the radiologist and promoting private interests. It believes that the "attempt to distort reality through television shows degrades the seriousness of the issue and misleads society," while the OAY has a clear position in favor of the presence of the radiologist in radiodiagnostic centers.
