Former Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos, presented data to Parliament on the staffing of Accident and Emergency Departments (A&E) in Cyprus' public hospitals. The data, obtained from OKYpY following a question from MP Prodromos Alambritis, reflects the staffing situation and capabilities of the A&E departments.

According to the data, Nicosia General Hospital employs 18 doctors and 68 nurses, while the Pediatric A&E employs 12 doctors. Limassol has 15 doctors and 45 nurses, Paphos has 12 doctors and 31 nurses, Larnaca has 16 doctors and 40 nurses, and Famagusta has 9 doctors and 36 nurses. The Troodos and Polis Chrysochous hospitals employ 5 and 4 doctors respectively.

From October 2024 to September 2025, 244,722 visits were recorded in public hospitals, with the hospitals of Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca receiving the largest volume of cases.

The Ministry of Health clarifies that emergency cases (categories 1 and 2) are treated immediately, while cases of category 3 and above may experience longer waiting times. Rapid Patient Triage Clinics operate to address congestion.

Interventions have also been implemented to strengthen infrastructure, such as autonomous Pediatric A&E departments in Nicosia and pediatric emergency services in Limassol. In addition, short-stay wards and a special discharge room operate at Nicosia General Hospital.
