Takata Airbag Recall: Thousands of Vehicles Off the Road in Cyprus

Starting today, Friday, October 3rd, the suspension of the Certificate of Roadworthiness (MOT) comes into effect for thousands of vehicles in Cyprus that have not replaced defective Takata airbags.
The suspension affects vehicles for which the 8-month deadline set by Circular 8/2025 has passed.
The Department of Road Transport (ΤΟΜ) announced that the first wave of suspensions will be implemented from October 3rd to October 30th, 2025, depending on the vehicle brand.
Approximately 16,900 vehicles, 20% of the initial 81,000, have not undergone airbag replacement. Toyota and Honda have the highest number of non-responses.
The TOM clarified that no extension will be granted in cases where an appointment has not been scheduled. Those with appointments in October will be allowed to replace the airbag until October 31, 2025.
Owners of vehicles for disabled individuals are urged to contact the Department of Road Transport immediately.
