Foot-and-Mouth Disease: EU Commissioner Visit to Cyprus

The visit of the European Commissioner for Animal Welfare, Oliver Varhelyi, to Cyprus tomorrow is considered crucial in the effort to limit foot-and-mouth disease.

During the meetings, Nicosia's requests for possible differentiations in the implementation of the protocols will be discussed. Sotiria Georgiadou, representative of the Veterinary Services, stated that the main goal remains to limit the disease and protect the rest of the animal population.

The culling of animals continues, with priority given to cattle due to the more severe symptoms. In some cases, sheep and goats have also been culled, mainly in units with infected cattle.
