Desalination Covers 80% of Cyprus' Water Supply

Desalination covers approximately 80% of Cyprus' water supply, according to the Department of Water Development (TAY). The total water production from desalination plants reaches about 245,000 cubic meters per day.
Currently, five permanent desalination plants operate in the areas of Dhekelia, Larnaca, Vasilikos, Episkopi, and Paphos. Additionally, two mobile units operate in the areas of Kissonerga and Monis.
In the near future, two new mobile desalination units are expected to operate in the Garylli area and the Limani Lemesou (Limassol Port). TAY emphasizes the importance of integrating Renewable Energy Sources (RES) into desalination plants.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment is handling issues related to the construction of a mobile desalination unit in the free Famagusta area.
