Road Tax 2026: Renewal Start and Deadlines

The Road Transport Department announced that road tax renewals for 2026 begin on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, and end on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Licenses can be renewed for 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. After the deadline, a surcharge of €10 plus 10% of the amount due will be applied.
A certificate of roadworthiness and insurance are required for renewal. The RTD advises citizens to renew their licenses in a timely manner to avoid system overload.
Those who do not wish to renew their license for 2026 must declare the vehicle as immobilized at the RTD. If immobilization is not declared, there is an obligation to pay the road tax.
Vehicles that were not renewed for 2025 and have not been declared as immobilized will be removed from the registry unless the amount due for 2025 is paid and the license for 2026 is renewed by March 11, 2026.
In case of vehicle destruction, an application for cancellation of registration with the certificate of destruction must be submitted.
Renewal is done online, except for specific categories (embassies, large families, quarries, antiques, United Nations, other organizations with exception code 04). Those facing difficulties can contact the District Offices of the RTD, the Citizen Service Centers (KEP) and KEPO.
No notices will be sent for renewal. Owners must update their contact information at the RTD.
