61st Anniversary of Tillyria Bombings – A Day of Remembrance

Today marks the 61st anniversary of the Tillyria bombings by the Turkish Air Force in August 1964. The operations lasted from August 7th to 9th, with napalm bombs heavily impacting the area.
Nikos Kleanthous, President of the Kato Pyrgos Tillyrias Community Council, stated that August 8th is a day of remembrance and honor for the fallen who defended Tillyria.
Meanwhile, events are being organized in the occupied territories to mark the 61st anniversary of the events, with occupation leader Ersin Tatar traveling to the area by military helicopter. Buses have also begun crossing from the occupied territories to Kokkina via Limnitis.
According to Andreas Karos, President of the Committee for the Opening of the Tillyria Crossings, around 50 buses with 900-1000 people are expected to pass, escorted by the UN Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP).
