Supermarkets and Shops Open on Saturday Despite Public Holiday

Supermarkets and retail stores will remain open on Saturday, January 17th, despite the public holiday declared for the funeral of former President Giorgos Vasiliou.
The Executive Secretary of the Pancyprian Supermarkets Association, Andreas Chatzhadamou, told CNA that the private sector will operate as normal. "There is no differentiation," he added, "employees will work as usual, as they do on Saturdays."
The Secretary-General of POBEK, Stefanos Koursaris, also confirmed that stores will remain open, as "the private sector is not affected according to the Labor Relations Code."
The Council of Ministers has declared the day of the funeral of former President Giorgos Vasiliou as a public holiday.
