Government Support for Farmers: Ministry of Agriculture

The Director-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Andreas Grigoriou, reiterated the government's commitment to supporting rural communities during the 1st Avocado Festival in Argaka.
Mr. Grigoriou emphasized that the Ministry recognizes the challenges faced by farmers and its priority is to ensure fairer incomes and the sustainability of farms. The Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy 2023–2027, with a budget of 454 million euros, is a key tool for supporting the agricultural sector.
Recently, a major investment measure of 60 million euros and a special intervention to support the first installation of new farmers with a budget of 7.5 million euros were announced. In addition, through the LEADER intervention, 2.8 million euros are available to finance the strategy of the Local Action Group in the Paphos District.
Mr. Grigoriou also referred to the drought and the effects of climate change, stressing that the government has implemented a holistic plan with 28 actions to reduce dependence on weather conditions. Avocado cultivation in Cyprus, especially in the Paphos District, has become one of the most profitable crops.
