Deputy Prime Minister Kostis Hatzidakis announced preventive measures to combat profiteering in the fuel and food markets. Speaking to SKAI, Mr. Hatzidakis emphasized that the government has a duty to intervene to prevent unjustified price increases due to the war.

According to Mr. Hatzidakis, the profit margin that existed before the war will be maintained until June 30. Trading companies have a profit of 5 cents per liter compared to refinery prices, while gas stations have an average profit of 12 cents. Fines of up to €5,000,000 are foreseen for supermarkets in case of irregularities.

Mr. Hatzidakis stated that if there are extreme phenomena at European and international level, Europe should intervene. The government will act based on its financial capabilities and the budget.
