The Minister of Development, Takis Theodorikakos, stated that profit is legitimate, but profiteering is not. He announced the immediate publication in the Government Gazette of the Legislative Act for the cap on the gross profit margin.

As he mentioned, inspections have already begun by the new Independent Authority, with 1,500 inspections at gas stations in the first six days. He emphasized that 20 million euros in fines have been imposed in the last 18 months, which are being collected.

The measures will be in effect until June 30, when they will be re-evaluated. Mr. Theodorikakos reminded that last year Greece had negative food inflation for six months, the lowest in the EU.

Responding to the opposition, he stated that from the revenues from tax evasion and VAT, increases in the minimum wage have been given and taxes have been reduced.

He called on the opposition to support the measures against profiteering, emphasizing that the good of all citizens should be of interest.
