SEK and PEO: Full Restoration of ATA is the Basis for Dialogue

The General Secretaries of SEK and PEO stated that the full restoration of the Automatic Cost of Living Adjustment (ATA) is a fundamental prerequisite for dialogue with employer organizations. The statements were made shortly before the pan-union meeting to decide on warning strike measures.
Andreas Matsas (SEK) and Sotiroulla Charalambous (PEO) emphasized that strike measures are a "one-way street" due to the lack of progress in the talks, which should have been completed by June 30.
Mr. Matsas mentioned that there is a large discrepancy between the parties and that the unions will activate the decision for strike measures in the public, wider public, local government, and private sectors. He expressed hope that solutions will be found and that escalation will not be necessary.
Ms. Charalambous noted that the extension of time was not utilized and that the employers' side is seeking criteria that would "degrade" the ATA institution. The unions are open to dialogue, but based on the full payment of the ATA.
