ATA sparks rifts in KEBE: President Stavrou faces challenge
Tensions are rising within KEBE, with President Stavros Stavrou facing challenges from members of the Executive Committee. The reason is the rejection of the agreement framework for the ATA and the employers' break with the Presidential.
Employers' organizations requested a written agreement framework for the ATA, due to a provision authorizing the Ministers of Finance and Labor to extend the ATA to more beneficiaries. The employers felt that the government tried to mislead them.
OEB President Giorgos Pantelidis described the references of the KEBE President as offensive, following the latter's statement regarding the informing of the unions. A joint OEB-KEBE statement was not issued, as Mr. Stavrou did not submit it to the Executive Committee.
Members of the KEBE Executive Committee are now challenging the President, while noting Mr. Stavrou's close relationship with President Christodoulidis. During the OEB and KEBE meeting with the President of the Republic, Mr. Stavrou reportedly disagreed with the rejection of the ATA.
