Decline in Number of Dishonored Checks in Cyprus Over 4 Years

A downward trend is recorded in the number of dishonored checks in the last four years, according to statistics published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) for July 2025.

Based on entries in the Central Information Registry (CIR), in 2022, 255 issuers of dishonored checks were recorded, in 2023 there were 274, in 2024 they decreased to 202, while in the first seven months of 2025 the number was limited to 63. In total, from January 2022 to date, 794 cases of issuers of dishonored checks have been recorded.

Correspondingly, the number of dishonored checks on the preliminary list was 473 in 2022, 356 in 2023, 300 in 2024 and 145 in the first seven months of 2025.

The value of dishonored checks amounted to €1,518,669 in 2022, €1,767,912 in 2023, €617,873 in 2024 and €312,599 in the first seven months of 2025, with the total value from January 2022 reaching €4,217,054.
