Cyprus Presidency to Focus on Tourism 2030 Agenda

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, welcomed the 91st General Assembly of HOTREC in Paphos, emphasizing that the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU will focus on the European agenda for Tourism 2030.

President Christodoulides stated that tourism is a cornerstone of the Cypriot economy, contributing over 13% to the GDP and employing directly and indirectly 120,000 people. The government is committed to working towards the development of a robust tourism policy, investing in the resilience, quality, and sustainability of the tourism ecosystem.

The President also referred to the government's policies to address climate change, green growth, and digital transformation. The Cyprus Presidency will seize the opportunity to promote the European Agenda for Tourism 2030 and explore new horizons in the sector.

He expressed satisfaction that the new EU strategy for Tourism will be presented during the Cyprus Presidency and praised the work of Commissioner Apostolos Tzitzikostas.
