Inflation at 2%: Everything More Expensive Except Olive Oil

Inflation edged up to 2% in October, from 1.9% in September, according to ELSTAT. In October 2024, there was an increase of 2.4%.

Price increases were recorded in food items such as: meats (10.6%), fresh fish (4%), fruits (9.1%), dairy and eggs (4.4%), chocolates (21.1%), coffee (19.3%), pastries (6.1%) and fruit juices (5.7%).

In contrast, a large price decrease was recorded in olive oil (36.9%).

Price increases were also recorded in housing rents (8.9%), clothing and footwear (1.9%), holiday packages (6.8%), restaurants-pastry shops-cafes (7.8%) and health insurance (7%).

In the energy sector, price decreases were recorded in electricity (3.3%), natural gas (6.3%), heating oil (4.3%) and fuels (1.6%).

Between October and September, price increases continued in beef (5.3%), pork (1.6%), lamb and goat (3.4%), fresh fruits (3.6%) and fresh vegetables (2.5%), while prices decreased in olive oil (2.7%) and coffee (2.1%).

Price increases also continued in housing rents (0.4%), while a price increase was recorded in electricity (2%).
