Entrepreneur Panos Marinopoulos has passed away at the age of 74. He was a member of the historic family with business activities in the pharmaceutical industry and food retail.

Panos Marinopoulos, known as "Panaras", was a descendant of the family that started its business in 1893 with a pharmacy in Athens. The family later expanded into the pharmaceutical industry through FAMAR and into organized food retail through Marinopoulos S.A.

He served on the boards of directors of family companies and had intense social activity. He had two children with Ioanna Marinopoulou.

The supermarket company "Marinopoulos" operated hundreds of stores throughout Greece. The collapse of the group and the transfer of the network to Sklavenitis in 2017 marked a turning point for the Greek food market.

His business activities also extended to the coffee market with Starbucks and fashion with Marks & Spencer.

In the years before the collapse, Panos Marinopoulos had retired from an active role in the business.

The cause of death is attributed to anoxic encephalopathy.
