10% Water Cuts: Reactions and Concerns

District Self-Government Organizations (EOA) warn of mechanical problems and increased water losses due to the government's decision to cut water supply by 10%. In a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, they express fears of intermittent water supply and damage to the network.
Konstantinos Parmaklis, General Director of EOA Nicosia, emphasizes the potential serious damages and increased leaks from the interruptions.
Giannis Tsouloftas, President of EOA Limassol, points out Limassol's dependence on limited reserves and delayed projects, due to the non-installation of new desalination units.
Giannis Karousos, President of EOA Famagusta, states that the interruption and restoration of water supply causes damage to the network, despite the reduction of losses in Famagusta.
The Water Development Department assures that the decision does not concern water cuts to households, but the total amount channeled to the EOAs and the Communities.
Andreas Grigoriou, General Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, states that the EOAs charge consumers higher prices for water to cover administrative costs and network maintenance.
Officials argue that the decision aims to reduce overconsumption and wasteful use, preventing cuts to households.
