The Ministry of National Economy and Finance is working on a plan to incentivize owners to rent out closed homes. The aim is to increase the availability of housing for doctors, teachers, uniformed personnel, and large families.

Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Deputy Minister Thanos Petralias are considering changes to the measure of income tax exemption for rents, responding to requests from POMIDA.

The proposed changes include:

  • Reducing the minimum lease term (e.g., 6 months instead of 3 years).
  • Maintaining the tax exemption in case of early departure of the tenant, under conditions.
  • Increasing the maximum property size for families with three or more children.

The bill is expected in Parliament by mid-October.
