New Digital Tools to Combat Tax Evasion Implemented in 2024

Three new digital tools to combat tax evasion are expected to be implemented this year, with the aim of increasing public revenue. These tools include the electronic consignment note, the electronic customer register, and the universal application of the digital work card.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the expansion of electronic transactions and the implementation of electronic books (My Data) significantly contributed to an increase in revenue of €2.2 billion in 2025. In addition, the presumptive taxation of freelancers and the digital work card also contributed to increased revenue.
The Deputy Prime Minister, Kostis Chatzidakis, announced that the goal is to extend the digital work card to the entire private sector by the end of the year.
The Ministry of Finance expects that the increase in revenue from tax evasion will continue in 2026, expanding the fiscal space for new tax breaks.
