Cypriot farmers are resuming protests against the EU-Mercosur agreement. Today, they are holding a peaceful demonstration outside the House of Europe in Nicosia.

The march began at 11:00 AM from Eleftheria Square, concluding at the House of Europe, where the farmers submitted a memorandum. Unlike previous protests, tractors were not used.

The president of the Panagrotikos Union of Cyprus (PEK), Christos Papapetrou, told REPORTER that various organizations are participating, including consumer, environmental, and youth party organizations. The protest also includes EKA, Panagrotikos, NEDIPA, Terra Cypria, PEO, the Socialist Women's Movement, Consumers, PEK, Evroagrotiko, ACCEPT LGBTI Cyprus, POGO, NAK, KOSP, ESEM, Proodeftiki, EDON, POA, the Ecologists Movement, NEDIK/Anagennisi and LAONA.

The EU has approved a regulation regarding the implementation of the safeguard clause of the EU-Mercosur agreement for agricultural products. The Commission will monitor imports of sensitive products and submit semi-annual reports to the European Parliament.

The Mercosur agreement, a customs union of South America, aims to promote free trade between its member countries. The EU-Mercosur agreement is expected to affect millions of consumers in Europe and South America.
