Limassol Port: Customs Brokers' Strike Continues Indefinitely
Share on:

Customs brokers at Limassol port are continuing their strike indefinitely, following a decision made at an extraordinary General Assembly on Thursday (25/9). The decision is a reaction to the Customs Director's refusal to modify the schedule for the new Automated Import System (AIS).

The President of the Association of Customs Agents, Christos Akaros, stated that despite dialogue efforts from the Ministry of Finance and Customs, the strike will continue until a solution is found. He noted that the association members are protesting the operational problems of the new system and the risk of job losses.

Mr. Akaros mentioned that the new system, scheduled to be implemented on September 29, presents productivity difficulties and does not check user authorization. In addition, the system is not fully translated into Greek, and mistakes are severely punished by Customs.
