Government to Receive Report on Vasiliko Terminal

The Government is expected to receive the project manager's report on the natural gas terminal in Vasiliko in the coming days, as stated by the Minister of Energy, Giorgos Papanastasiou, before the Parliamentary Committee on Energy.
Mr. Papanastasiou emphasized that the natural gas terminal is crucial for Cyprus' energy security, acknowledging "past failures". He noted that ETYFA has assigned the French company Technip to control and conduct a study for the completion of the pier and land works.
The project was investigated by the European Court of Auditors, CINEA, and the European Public Prosecutor's Office, with the Minister assuring that responsibilities will be assigned where they exist. Mr. Papanastasiou stressed that the Government is working for the rapid completion of the project, which "is not an open-ended project."
During the meeting, questions were raised by members of parliament regarding the progress of the project, delays, and costs. DIKO President, Nikolas Papadopoulos, stated that "eighteen years later, and after paying hundreds of millions of euros, we do not have natural gas."
AKEL General Secretary, Stefanos Stefanou, stressed the need to complete the infrastructure as soon as possible, while DISY MP, Averof Neofytou, referred to poor planning and the investigation by the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
