Cyprus Records Lowest Unmet Medical Needs Rate in the EU

Cyprus recorded the lowest rate of unmet medical needs in the European Union (EU), according to the latest Eurostat data (2024), with only 0.2% of the population reporting a need for medical examination or treatment that was not met.
The Presidency of the Republic of Cyprus stated that this achievement confirms that the country has a functional and effective healthcare system, accessible to all citizens. The EU average for the same rate is 3.8%.
Reforms are continuing to upgrade the General Healthcare System (GHS), strengthen public hospitals, digitize health services, and improve the quality of care.
The government considers strengthening the health sector and providing quality health services to all citizens as a fundamental pillar of its policy.
The rate of 0.2% is an indicator of social welfare and proof that health policies are yielding tangible results.
