Clean Monday: Price Hikes and Drops in Lenten Foods

The Consumer Protection Service's Price Observatory recorded increases and decreases in the prices of Lenten products ahead of Clean Monday. Prices were collected on February 19 from 67 points of sale in all provinces.

Increases were observed in celery root (52.84%), eggplant salad (27.24%), small fresh octopus (25.05%), lagana bread (18.29%), and tahini (8.88%).

Conversely, decreases were recorded in tomatoes (46.74%), cucumbers (27.42%), greenhouse cucumbers (21.70%), beetroot (18.09%), shrimp (25.94%), and squid (14.21%).

The price of halva did not show a significant difference. There are large price differences in the same products between different points of sale. The Consumer Protection Service recommends market research before purchases.
