Tax Reform: Changes and Improvements in Three Directions

The Minister of Finance is promoting improvements to the proposed tax reform, aiming to ease reactions.

The first point concerns lifting the corporate veil and adjusting the salaries of company shareholders, with Makis Keraunos stating that the initial idea of a review by the Tax Commissioner based on Social Insurance Fund salaries is being withdrawn.

The responsibilities of the Tax Commissioner are also being re-evaluated, while safeguards are being promoted for sealing businesses. Three warning letters will precede the appeal to the court.

Makis Keraunos responded to criticisms of favorable treatment of the wealthy, saying that 60% of citizens will not pay tax under the new reform.

A meeting with political leaders will take place on September 15, with the possibility of withdrawal remaining on the table. The goal is to implement the reform on January 1, 2026.
