Tax Relief on Rents: Reactions and Implications

Recent announcements regarding tax relief on rents, made at the Thessaloniki International Fair (DETH), have sparked reactions from landlords and tenants. Property owners welcome the measures, while tenants express dissatisfaction with the lack of measures directly affecting them.
The government announced a reduction in the tax rate to 25% (from 35%) for annual rental income between 12,000 and 24,000 euros. The Panhellenic Federation of Property Owners (POMIDA) expresses satisfaction, while the Panhellenic Tenants Protection Association (PASYPE) accuses the government of indifference towards tenants.
The president of POMIDA, Stratos Paradias, states that the reduction concerns the middle class and calls for further interventions. The president of PASYPE, Angelos Skiadas, emphasizes the despair of tenants due to high rents.
POMIDA also requests interventions for the tax exemption of closed apartments that are made available for long-term lease.
