Diesel Subsidy Extension: On the Pump, Low Chances for Fuel Pass
Share on:

The financial team is considering extending the diesel fuel subsidy beyond May, aiming to keep the price below 2 euros. Meanwhile, the fuel pass has little chance of being extended.

The subsidy at the pump is considered more effective, as it is immediately reflected in the cost for consumers. Developments in the Middle East and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz keep international oil prices high, making intervention necessary.

According to reports, the 20-cent per liter subsidy is the most effective measure to contain the price of diesel. Extending the measure on a monthly basis is being considered to allow flexibility depending on prices and fiscal margins.

Containing the price of diesel is important for transport and the market, as it affects the operating costs of trucks, taxis, tourist buses and commercial vehicles. Government sources emphasize that final decisions will depend on the evolution of the energy crisis.

The subsidy measure has already been extended for May, costing 55 million euros.
