Revenues from electricity exports are expected to reach almost €1 billion in 2025, with the benefit to the trade balance exceeding €650 million compared to 2019.

According to ELSTAT data for 2025, the value of electricity exports reached €972 million, while imports amounted to €710 million, creating a surplus of €261 million.

In 2019, the balance was negative, with imports covering 18% of domestic needs and their value exceeding €500 million compared to €106 million of exports. The deficit of €400 million in 2019 turned into a surplus of €261 million in 2025.

Greece became an energy exporter in 2024 for the first time since 2000. Net exports in 2025 reached 3.010 GWh, almost 10 times more than in 2024 (307 GWh).

Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy Nikos Tsafos stated that Greece is the seventh largest energy exporter in the EU. In 2025, Greece was a net exporter of electricity for 263 days.
