The Famagusta District Self-Government Organisation (EOA) has reduced unaccounted-for water by 389,000 cubic meters in one year. This translates to water savings and a financial benefit of €300,000, excluding VAT.

According to the president of EOA, Giannis Karousos, the reduction in unaccounted-for water is due to improved management and loss reduction. Despite a 3.75% increase in water supply, metered consumption increased by 11.07%, reducing the percentage of unaccounted-for water from 36.59% to 32.12%.

Mr. Karousos emphasized that this reduction is significant, but losses still exceed 30%, requiring continuous effort and investment. Proposed measures include upgrading networks, installing monitoring systems, smart meters, and strengthening controls.

Indicative data per municipality and community:

  • Avgorou: Daily supply reduced by 10%.
  • Acheritou: Supply reduced by 12,000 cubic meters in the summer of 2025.
  • Liopetri: Daily supply reduced by 300 cubic meters.
  • Frenaros: Daily supply reduced by 500 cubic meters.
  • Ayia Napa Municipality: Replacement of the supply pipeline from Kokkinogremos is planned.
  • Paralimni Municipality: Unaccounted-for water reduced from 37% to 30%.
