Cyprus Electricity Authority Warns of Potential Power Cuts Due to Heatwave

The Cyprus Transmission System Operator (TSO) has announced the possibility of power cuts today and tomorrow due to marginal coverage of electricity demand caused by high temperatures.
On August 12, 2025, the National Energy Control Center (EKE) proceeded with rotational load shedding for up to 18 minutes due to increased demand and a fault at the Vasilikos Power Station. Two medium voltage feeders in Nicosia and Paphos were manually restored after outages of 1.5 and 1 hour respectively.
The TSO anticipates marginal demand coverage between 18:30 – 22:00 with temperatures up to 45°C. Cuts, if needed, will last up to 30 minutes per consumer group.
An appeal has been made to limit consumption during peak hours for system security.
