There is increased activity regarding bookings at leisure centers ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. According to the President of the Federation of Leisure Center Owners Associations (OSIKA), Neophytos Thrasyvoulou, speaking to CYPRUS NEWS AGENCY (CNA), bookings for December are approaching 60%.

Mr. Thrasyvoulou mentioned that there are options for all budgets, both in the mountains and along the coast. He estimated that the booking rate would increase, as Cypriots tend to decide at the last minute. So far, visitor numbers at leisure centers in December have ranged between 40% and 50%.

Furthermore, Mr. Thrasyvoulou described the tourist season that ended in November as positive, despite reduced bookings at the start. He made special mention of August, when more Cypriots chose to stay on the island. He also noted the increased presence of tourists, especially in the free Famagusta areas and Paphos.

Mr. Thrasyvoulou emphasized that the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is making efforts to maintain flights during the winter period, estimating that Cyprus can become a year-round tourist destination.

Finally, he referred to the problems of the sector, which will be discussed in the new year and concern contracts and the new legislative framework.
