AKEL Proposes Measures to Support Economy Due to War

AKEL is calling on the Government to draw up a comprehensive support plan, with immediate and medium-term measures, to protect the economy and society from the effects of the war.
The party's proposals on the matter were presented by the party's general secretary, Stefanos Stefanou. These include a permanent reduction of VAT on electricity to 5%, subsidizing the increase in energy costs, and reducing the special consumption tax, with the ultimate goal of abolishing double taxation on fuel.
In addition, measures are proposed to strengthen tourism and the country's connectivity. Mr. Stefanou noted that the financing of support measures can be drawn from the state budget and through the European Union's affordable energy plan.
